About

In my teens I went mad for spiral staircases; then it was unusual doors; then phones from the ’70s and ’80s from the world over. My bugbear is the spreading homogeny across the UK high streets. It’s even more depressing to see chains replicated across Europe. On the plus side, there is always somewhere that will reward you for your curiosity, for straying away from the beaten path.  For me, that means discovering a surprising building, unique shop or a side street that makes you gasp in delight as it takes you back several centuries. That said, I love challenging new architecture – with only a few exceptions! The photos on this blog are snippets of the novelties I come across at home and abroad. Most are out of the ordinary and I celebrate that. I hope you like them, too.
